Most of my painting ideas come from my imagination but there are some that come from other people's imagination. Some of the commission work I have done has pushed me out of my comfort zone as I paint subjects that I have never, or rarely, painted before. For example, I was asked to paint somebody's sister, with her two dogs, driving a red mini with some emus thrown into the mix. Emus definitely sit in my comfort zone but the other subjects are more challenging.
Currently I'm working on five long, narrow panels of Australian animals and birds. Some are animals that I haven't painted or rarely paint, so I'm a little out of my comfort zone, but I am mostly feeling relaxed while I'm painting these because I frequently paint birds.
