A peek into an emu couple's bedroom. I’m not sure who introduced Charlie Chaplin to these two or why they are such big fans of him?? Possibly because emus don’t have a language or birdsong, and that they can’t understand English? Miming is a universal language, and they probably find all of Charlie Chaplin’s antics hilarious.
Emus make very low-pitched non-vocal sounds including deep rolling grunts and thumping or booming notes which can be heard up to two kilometres away!! I have been lucky enough to hear their low rumbling, thunder-like sound at very close proximity. It is phenomenal!! It felt like the ground was transporting the sound and that it was vibrating. The closest resemblance of this sound I have heard is a lion’s roar at the Melbourne Zoo. Equally phenomenal.
This bright, quirky watercolour painting is painted on 300gsm cold pressed Feinkornig watercolour paper. It has my full name and signature on the back of the painting. The painting is A-4 size (21 x 29.7 cm).
