I drew and painted this Bus Stop scene when you could strike up a conversation with a fellow commuter because they weren't scrolling on their mobile phones or wearing earpieces in their ears. This wombat and echidna are enjoying their meeting and I’m sure it will make their wait-time quicker. I titled it “Happy Meeting”.©
I've seen and photographed wombats many times in Tasmania's wilderness. There's nothing cuter than seeing a baby wombat running! They're so cute. I love wombats and this was furthered cemented when I sketched outdoors with the company of a wombat. It stayed with me munching on grass for an hour. Now, not too many people can say they have had a wombat as a sketching partner! They are gentle animals and I try to capture that gentleness and calmness in my paintings.
Wombats are marsupials native to Tasmania and the mainland of Australia. They are herbivores. Female wombats give birth to a single young in the spring and the young leave the pouch after about six months.
Echidnas have spines like a porcupine, a beak like a bird, a pouch like a kangaroo, and lays eggs like a reptile. They are a member of the monotremes, along with the platypus, an order of egg-laying mammals. They are a small, solitary mammal native to Tasmania and Australia. They are usually 30 to 40 cm long and weigh between 2 to 4.5 kilos. I love the way they walk, they waddle!
This print is printed on William Turner 310gsm print version textured water colour paper, which retains the look and feel of water colour paintings. No wonder I have so many people ask me if the print is an original painting! This is an open edition print.
